Ron Dunn

Rob has been supporting the Mission as a donor for about a decade and is now the Steering Committee Chair for the More Than… capital campaign for our new homeless resolution center.

What inspired you to first get involved with the Mission?

In my last year of college, I got involved with the rescue mission in Colorado Springs and I saw it wasn’t just, you’re getting fed or getting some shelter, but you start building relationships that are actually very helpful. Then I moved to Fort Collins and ran into the Mission and saw Harvest Farm. I felt like I needed to challenge myself to give more, and so the Mission was one that I was going to give to.

What prompted you to support the More Than… campaign?

There are so many challenging and complex things that to me, supporting it fits with a life that honors God, and the building fits with serving the men more. I really believe, not only do we have to keep doing what we’re doing well, we need to challenge ourselves to set it up to do better, and I feel that the campaign completely fits into that.

Do you have any favorite memories from your time supporting the Mission?

Every time I hear one of the testimonies, it reminds me how bad things can get, how alone you can feel and how getting this kind of help, and feeling loved and encouraged, turns the guys’ lives around. That is why helping 250 people is important compared to 89, because it’s 161 more of these possible testimonies of individuals.

What would you say to encourage someone else to get involved?

Whatever your gift is, is still part of helping people and it starts to orientate your own heart and mind. God is calling us to participate and to give. I think we’re actually missing an opportunity to lay hold of more joy and goodness in our own lives by failing to do this.

This post is part of April’s Changing Lives Newsletter. This month, we’re sharing the stories of men who came to the Mission in their hardships and have now found hope in: Small but Mighty.
