This Easter, as we celebrate Jesus’ death and resurrection with our guests at the Mission, we are reminded that Jesus, too, suffered. Every one of our guests has a story that includes hardship, and yet, Jesus is the reminder that they are not alone. Meet a few of the men who came to the Mission in their hardships and have now found hope.
More Than… a Bed
FCRM currently has room for 89 beds and every night turns the cafeteria into an emergency overnight sleeping space by adding 21 mats on the floor. Our new homeless resolution center will have 250 beds and need-based dorms for:
- Veterans
- Those in recovery
- Those who work a night shift
and need to sleep during the day

Bunks
Now to Him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to His power that is at work within us.” -Ephesians 3:20

Deed
Deed was in the Navy for 10 years. When the pandemic hit, he was out of workman’s compensation, lost his part-time job and had to move out of his home due to a remodel, leading him to Fort Collins Rescue Mission.
“They pointed me in directions for assistance that I would have never thought of, like the Veterans Employment Services, and that’s where it kicked off everything for housing. I would not have known about it at all.
This place gave me stability. It gave me direction. I have clothes on my back, and a chance to get back on my feet. It has given me the time and support to do that. It’s the most important thing, because I want to be back on my feet, and I couldn’t do it on my own.” Deed is now in housing.
More Than… a Shelter
FCRM currently only has one and a half rooms to serve as a space for intake, case management, staff meetings, offices, volunteers, donation storage, and outside providers. Our new homeless resolution center will have several spaces dedicated for these resources, which will offer more:
- Privacy
- Safety
- Access to services

Devin
Devin was on the streets for 15 years, in and out of prison or jail and struggling with addiction and several mental health diagnoses. When he got robbed, he came to the Mission, which has offered him the most stability he has ever had in his life.
“This is the first time I’ve ever had a permanent bed. I’ve been getting myself back into community and I attend church. I got a case manager, and I go to counseling sessions. This place has offered me clothes, a shower, they’ve helped me set goals and get Medicaid and dental.
I’m clean. I’m working to get an income-based apartment. The security is the biggest thing I see around here, and they are really good about that. If any donor was out there to help, this would be a place to help because I see a lot of encouragement from people who want to change their life. I appreciate everything they donate, and what they’ve done for me. Of all the homeless shelters I’ve been at, this one’s the best one.”
More Than… a Path to Walk Alone
We offer love to our guests unconditionally, as Jesus taught us to do. Our calling is to meet every guest exactly where they are and walk with them out of addiction and homelessness. This is something that won’t change with our new homeless resolution center, but will be amplified through:
- A trauma-informed building design
and approach - ADA accessibility
- Day center for men and women
- And more!

Eric
Eric turned to drugs and alcohol when he was 14. Despite his addiction, he was able to hold a job, but when he lost his mom and best friend within three months, he had no hope and was living on the streets, eventually leading him to the Mission.
“This place saved my life. I have hope. They let me have a roof over my head and food in my stomach. I’m starting to have responsibilities, to save money, I’m working, I am in counseling, I’m getting my license back, I’m planning on moving out at the end of the winter, and I’m getting ready to go back to school to be a CNA.
I love the structure of it. The people are so dedicated to what they do, and they’re willing to go above and beyond for you, which is unbelievable. It’s been years since I felt loved. I got friends now. I got people I can rely on.
